The 17th seed Schiavone has became the second person from Italy to win the Grand Slam at Roland Garros in Paris. Adriano Panatta is the only Italian man who won the French Open men’s title in 1976.

Stosur’s amazing power strokes made her some tough competition for Schiavone, but ultimately it was the Italian’s endurance and great shots that made her the winner.

Schiavone beat Justine Henin, Serena Williams and Jelena Jankovic, on her journey to the French open 2010 final.

Schiavone accepted the trophy from 1990 French Open winner Mary Pierce on Chatrier Stadium court.
