The US government has issued a warning to travelers across the world, after it received a warning of al Qaeda plot to attack public transport or tourist sites. The US State Department said that there is a risk of a terror attack, especially high in the Middle East and North Africa between now and the end of August 2013.

The warning came after a threat was received from an al Qaeda plot to attack US embassies in Muslim countries. Britain has also changed its travel advise for Saudi Arabia and the Gulf on August 2, 2013, due to the latest alert. The UK has told diplomats in Arabian capitals to exercise vigilance until the Eid festival, which will mark the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan on Thursday, August 9, 2013.

On Friday, August 3, 2013 evening, the US Department officials said in a statement that American citizens living or traveling overseas must be aware of a potential al-Qaeda attack, either in or emanating from the Arabian peninsula. The department went on to say that terrorist militants continue to plan terrorist attacks in the region, as well as beyond.

The statement also informed that the attacks might involve public transportation systems and other tourist infrastructure.
