Andy Murray had feared that his dream would never come true but it was realized when he won the US Open. The Scottish player managed to defeat the champion Novak Djokovic 7-6 (12/10) 7-5 2-6 3-6 6-2 during the US Open final on September 10, 2012 and finally won his first grand slam title at the fifth time of asking.

Murray became the first British man to land a singles crown at one of the four major since Fred Perry won in the year 1936. The match was indeed like a roller coaster and had married the journey that Murray had taken to get there.

At one stage the tennis star looked poised to snatch the defeat. Murray said, “It was an incredibly tough match and obviously it felt great at the end. Relief is probably the best word I would use to describe how I’m feeling just now.” The Scot added, “I’m very, very happy that I managed to come through because if I had lost this one from two sets up, that would have been a tough one to take.”

Despite windy conditions Murray was twice defeated in the opening set before he clinched it on the sixth set. The victory also came six weeks after Murray cried on Centre Court after his loss in front of Roger Federer in Wimbledon.
