UK Today News: Breast Cancer Awareness Month – Study Says 50% Women Unaware That They Have The Disease
A new survey on breast cancer by charity Breakthrough Breast Cancer, states that almost fifty per cent of women who are suffering with the disease are unaware of the fact that they too have been affected by it. The reason for the ignorance is because they do not go for a check-up.
The survey was conducted by the Breakthrough Breast Cancer charity on 1000 women. The survey claims that thirteen per cent of women feel that it is not mandatory to go for a check-up, eighteen per cent say that they were unaware, fifteen per cent of the women said that they actually feared about finding any tumor in their breast. 53 per cent claimed that they did not know that alcohol was also one of the main players in developing breast cancer.
Another study focussed on the genetic aspect of breast cancer, and stated that closer family members of women who were diagnosed with cancer before 35, have a higher chance of getting the disease. It is thus important to get a regular check-up.
The month of October is marked as National Breast Cancer Awareness month with people and organizations across the world raising awareness and funds for research of breast cancer.
