UK Today News: A British airline flight which was travelling from Bristol to the Egyptian resort of Sharm El Sheikh, had to make an emergency landing after a bomb threat was received. News channels in the UK say that the British Airliner had diverted the flight to Athens airport on Monday after the threat was revealed.

The flight had 213 passengers along with the crew on board, and news reports state that the plane was a Thomson Airway Boeing aircraft. All the passengers on board are safe, an airline official said in an announcement.

The Greek Police and the Defence ministry have said that the aircraft is being checked for explosives and bombs. The company had said that a security alert was raised when the flight was travelling from Bristol to Egypt.

The pilot of the flight had taken the decision as a precautionary measure; in the interest of the customer safety. After the alarm was raised, the flight was then escorted to safety by the Greek jets, immediately following the bomb threats. The British Foreign office has said that the matter will be urgently looked in to. The passengers are currently at the airport terminal.

The United Kingdom has been on high alert ever since a terrorist organization announced that it will carry out bomb attacks in several parts of Europe. Late last year, a bomb was found hidden in a printer from Yemen.
