Facebook blamed for one third of divorces in the UK?

UK Today News: In recent times it has been observed that the most happening social networking website, Facebook, is cited as the reason for a third of broken marriages in the UK today. Moreover, Facebook is also used as a source of evidence in divorce cases.

According to a law firm Divorce Online, 33% of the behavior based petitions that were filed had mentioned the social networking site. Mark Keenan, the managing director of the law firm, said that Facebook has now become the primary method for communicating with friends for many people.

Keenan added that people start talking with their ex flames, start off with innocent talks which ultimately lead to trouble. The managing director also observed that the social networking sites are also the easiest places to flirt with people of the opposite sex.

On social networking sites, one of the most common problems is when the spouse finds flirty messages or pictures of their partner at a place they did not know or with someone they shouldn’t have been with. It was also observed that if you have hidden something from your partner, then Facebook becomes the easiest way to find out hidden facts.

Facebook now can be used as an evidence for unreasonable behavior.

Christmas 2011 season to leave millions of Brits in debt

UK Today News: A recent study has found that 40 percent people in the UK are currently in debt – excluding the student loans and mortgage. This means that Brits will be entering the Christmas period with their stretched finances to begin with, which means that their financial situation is set to get worse this festive season.

Only more than half of the people in the UK, which is 57 percent, will have enough money to cover the expenses over the festive season. People who are already in debt, 36 percent of those, expect the Christmas season to push them further in the red area, while 20 percent will use their December salary to cover the costs incurred during Christmas.

Moreover, for those who are not in debt, one out of ten are likely to be pushed to arrears due to high expenses during the festive season. So according to the overall figures, out of those who are gong in to debt and those who are further going in to debt, 69 percent say that they will be relying on their credit cards, while 23 percent say that they will plan to use their over draft and 9 percent of them will take a loan to manage expenses.

Experts state that the year 2011 has been tough for consumers with the rising cost of living hitting wallets pretty hard. It is further added that it does not come as a shock that such a high number of people will be tipped into debts during this festive season, since the British economy hasn’t been doing well either.

The new bikini is made of solar panels that have the capacity to charge an MP3 player or a camera. The swim suit costs £120 and has been designed by Andrew Schneider from New York.

Designer Andrew is now planning to design a pair of trunks for the convenience of men. Andrew personally created each end every piece of the solar bikini and takes more than 80 hours.

The designer creates the bikini with the help of conductive thread and 40 paper thin flexible photo voltaic panels for each bikini. Moreover, the user of the bikini can also take a dip in the water. But the designer has insisted that the user needs to be dry at least while wearing the bikini. For those who have a fear of getting a shock while getting charged, they need not fear as enough arrangements have been made by the designer. Andrew has assured that the user will never feel the electric charge, while it is being used for powering the devices.

Parents get tech-savvy in hopes of keeping track of children via mobile phones?

UK Today News: If you think that the children these days have become technically sound, think again. Even parents these days are trying their best to keep pace with their children. A recent survey has found that the parents send text messages three times a day on an average, not only to show that they are tech-savvy too, but also in a bid to keep tabs on their kids.

The study found that the parents sent an average of 600 text messages and 312 emails every year to keep a track of their children. Surprisingly, twenty percent of the parents had said that the social network was the best place to find out what their children were doing.

Researchers from the National Family Week had questioned 5,000 parents to look in to the way technology had affected family life. Nick Henry of the National Family Week had said that messaging and emailing the children was just a result of the modern life.

The results of the survey had also said that the modern technology had put a negative effect on their family life. Some of them had even said that they have banned mobile phones and other gadgets from the dining table because kids tend to be addicted to it, and telling their friends every little detail of their lives – be it via SMS or the internet. The survey had also found that an average family had spent just a few hours together every week due to technology.

But the clear bottom line of this study does reveal one unofficial sentiment in a parent’s mind when it comes to dealing with their kids superior tech knowledge – If you can’t beat them, join them!

Air pollution at its worst in the UK

UK Today News: The pollution levels in the UK rose above normal on Friday. The cities of Britain were filled with pollutants right from the first ray of the sun. A warning has been raised by the government to most of the cities in the central, east and southern parts England following the rise in pollution.

The temperature in England was even warmer than the usual, which hit 79f in Central London on Friday. The temperature had revealed that it was the highest temperature in the month of April in England.

According to the experts, conditions could be hazardous for asthma patients, children and elder people, as they may find it difficulty to breathe due to the dispersion of dust, soot, dirt and liquid nitrogen dioxide in the air.

Experts have also said that long exposure to such an atmosphere may lead to heart problems and even lung cancer. The smog warning in England came after two years; usually such warnings come during summer. Officials have advised to avoid much outdoor activities. Doctors have also said that such an atmosphere affects the children, who are more prone to lung ailments and are also prone to asthma. Experts have added that if such pollutants are inhaled, then they cause inflammation in the airways.

UK records highest births outside marriage in 200 years

UK Today News: If you thought that the most number children born out of wedlock are at an all time low, then think again. A new study has revealed that maximum number of children are born outside marriage today in the UK than any other time in 200 years. According to a research conducted by Centre for Social Justice, earlier the number of couples living together was just 5% before the year 1945.

Critics say that the sanctity of marriage seems to has diminished in the 21st century, with the new level of independence experienced by youngsters nowadays.

But the figures have increased to a whopping 90%. The number of births outside marriage, had gradually started increasing after the year 1960.

The figures started increasing from more than 10% in the 70s to 30% in the 90s. The authors of the report, Dr. Samantha Callan and Professor Rebecca Probert have argued that the facts are not a result of the fact that the number of couples living sans marriage has increased in the 20th century.

The authors had also said that only 1% to 3% of couples in the 1950s and 1960s had lived together before marriage. The study has also revealed that in the early 20th century, very few women had sex with their fiancés, so that they could be ahead of the wedding day. However, Prof Probert and Dr Callan had concluded the argument saying that they do not intend to tell that marriages in the past were successful and long lasting and they did not even suggest that successful marriages do not exist anymore.

Meanwhile, the people who seem a bit concerned are the water company authorities. The water companies – especially in the Bristol area – are looking forward to some rain, as the water levels in the reservoirs are rapidly depleting thanks to the scorching sun and increased water usage.

To add to it, the freezing temperatures in the month of December and January had destroyed many of the cordyline palms as well as the water plants in the north and Midlands. According to the meteorological office authorities, the temperatures are expected to increase up to 22C by Thursday.

The officials have also said that some scanty showers are expected to break the normal pattern. A spokesman from the meteorological department has said that the Easter holiday will experience pleasant weather and the temperatures will fall after Sunday along with some bright sunshine. Some of the regions in the south will have more sunshine.

According to the Bristol Water, it has been the driest April in 75 years. Despite the heavy meltdown of snow, the water companies are looking forward to some rain.

Stillbirth rates in Britain are the highest in the world

UK Today News: In a major recent crisis in the UK, the number of stillbirths is alarmingly increasing every year. New data suggests that every year, more than 4,000 babies are stillborn, which is more than any other nation in the world.

Surprisingly, the number of stillborn babies is a lot higher than the number of deaths that take place in road accidents in Britain. It was found that the most common reasons for stillbirth happened to be birth complications, infections, congenital malformations, maternal problems, among several others.

New analysis state that the possible reasons behind all this were lifestyle factors like excess weight, smoking, alcohol consumption, pregnancy over the age of 35, drug abuse, teenage pregnancy and social deprivation. The Chairman of Sands, Mr. Hale – which is a charity concerned to the stillbirths – said that stillbirth means that a child that has been dead before birth.

Sands has now expressed concerns over the growing number of stillbirths and have appealed for creating awareness among the parents. Hale said that more research is required to find out the reasons for so many stillbirths. Moreover, awareness has to be created among the prospective parents so as to warn them of the possibilities and the precautions that they should take.

Doctors advise women to quit smoking and drinking and to make sure that they get proper exercise and nutrition – coupled with regular checkups to make sure they have a safe delivery.

The Health Protection Agency is constantly sending letters to schools all over the UK, to advice parents to get their children vaccinated before they plan a holiday in Europe.

Countries like Bulgaria, Germany, France, Switzerland, Italy and Spain have been reportedly hit by the outbreak of measles. According to a spokesman of the agency, many people who have retuned from Europe are now developing symptoms of measles, and this could lead to a major outbreak in the UK – since there have been growing incidents of measles cases in Britain.

Parents in Britain are constantly advised to be aware of the symptoms and have been told to get their children immunized before the trip or else they would be vulnerable to the disease. The infection of measles are air borne and can be spread through air, when infested people cough or sneeze.

People of all ages can contract the disease. But the people who are the most vulnerable are children, teenagers and young adults who have not been vaccinated. People are advised to have the MMR vaccine, which covers measles, mumps and rubella. Even those who have missed one or two doses of the vaccine are at a risk and predisposed to contracting measles. Britons contemplate possible 11 day Easter break thanks to the Royal Wedding

The long holiday could begin from 22nd April – on the day of Good Friday – and is followed by the Royal Wedding on the 29th. Britons just need to do is take leave on April 26, 27 and 28, and this doesn’t seem out of reach for many Brits.

After the Royal Wedding, the May Day bank holiday comes up on the second of May. With so many holidays at a stretch, it is likely that many of the workers may not even report to their offices, and take a much awaited mid-year break. So in order to get a long 11 day Easter break, one has to just apply for 3 days work leave from April 26 to 28. Many British families have already commenced their Easter break, as their children in school have got their own break.

Authorities at London’s Heathrow Airport have predicted that the upcoming weekend will be the busiest of all. More than 5.7 million people are expected to pass through the airport in this month. Meanwhile, Gatwick Airport too is expecting two million passengers up to 2nd May. Paul Furner of the TravelRepublic.co.uk has said that the sales have risen to 59.3 % over the same period last year. People in and around the UK are planning holidays to make the most of the Easter break, since it is a once in a blue moon opportunity available to the Brits.
