UK Today News: China Says Japan’s Arrest Of Fishing Boat Captain Is “Unlawful”, Demands An Apology

The Chinese authorities reportedly demand that the Japanese government should apologize for detaining their fishing boat captain, Zhan Qixiong. Zhan was detained after his commercial fishing boat accidently rammed into the two Japanese vessels near the disputed islands of the East China Sea. The Foreign Ministry of China called the arrest as ‘unlawful and invalid’.

Zhan was arrested on September 8 after being accused of creating hurdles in the workings of the Japanese Public Officers and was released on Friday, September 24.

The Japanese attorney who dealt with the case said, “We decided to suspend the charges in consideration of the Japan-China relationship.”

Soon after the detention, the Chinese government arrested four Japanese nationals who were there on an official visit on the grounds of illegally filming in the military area. But none of the countries is linking these two cases with each other. The four men are facing the interrogations.
