The report called “How Tobacco Smoke Causes Disease: The Biology and Behavioral Basis for Smoking-Attributable Disease” stated, “There is no risk-free level of exposure to tobacco smoke.”

Around 85% of  lung cancers have been caused due to smoking, according to the report. Moreover there are several chronic diseases which can be caused due to direct exposure to tobacco smoke. Tobacco smoke contains more than 7,000 chemicals, out of which at least 70 are carcinogens and some hundreds are toxic. Tobacco can also lead to major heart ailments, stroke and peripheral arterial diseases.

The report has also revealed that even occasional smoking, like just a few cigarettes a day, can invite cardiovascular disease. Secondhand smoke can easily affect children with middle ear infections, while adults can face a risk of nasal infection or even reproductive problems.
