The Secretary of the UAE Swimming Federation, Saeed Al Hamour, stated that severe fatigue was the reason that caused the open-water swimmer’s death, as per the doctors. Another report suggests that Crippen suffered a cardiac arrest. The cause of death is still being determined with further reports speculating that the high temperature of the water could have played a role in his death. The body of the swimmer is expected to be handed over to the U.S. Swimming Federation on Monday.

Reports state that the International Swimming Federation has cancelled all the remaining competitions in the UAE, following Crippen’s sudden demise.

Crippen, 26, belonged to Philadelphia in Pennsylvania. He was a bronze medalist in the 10-kilometer event at the 2009 FINA (Federation International Nation Association) World Championships and also a gold medalist in 2007 Pan American games in the same event.
