According to reports, Obama also reminded them that the threat of Al-Qaeda – which is haunting the world – will not pass away soon. As he spoke to the new solders, he praised their academic achievements and also showed them a small piece of the plans which are laid down to counter terrorism in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Obama stressed out by saying that after the war in Iraq is over, they will turn towards Afghanistan, which will be a tougher ground to fight on. The face of the war may have changed in these nine years, but the importance of the war is same as it was when the 9/11 attacks took place. He stated that, US has toppled the Taliban, but now they have to help the country bring up a sovereign government, so the days ahead will be more difficult.

For the US, this war is now a different kind of war; it will be harder than before. He told the cadets that, America’s strength and resilience will help them overcome the people who are sowing the seeds of fear. He also pointed out to the women who were in uniform at the West Point, saying that they too are playing an indispensible role in defending the country.
