Tech blog Gizmodo, had paid $5000 for the unreleased, next-gen iPhone and went ahead and posted an in depth preview of the device. The blog returned the phone to Apple after Cupertino’s lawyers requested in writing that Gizmodo return the iPhone.

Reports say that Apple may decide to sue Gizmodo’s, but this is only something that we will know in some time.

Gizmodo has earlier reported that an Apple engineer Gray Powell had left the iPhone prototype in a bar on March 18, after which it was found by a customer who recognized it as an Apple prototype who unsuccessfully tried to return it to Apple, after which it found its way in the hands of Gizmodo.
