Aretha Franklin undergoes successful surgery in Detroit

American singer – songwriter Aretha Franklin has been through a successful surgery in her Detroit, Michigan hometown on Thursday. “God is still in control. I had superb doctors and nurses whom were blessed by all the prayers of the city and the country,” Aretha said after the surgery.

Reports state that the reason for her surgery is still not known. Sources say that the singer, only a a month ago, had postponed all her concert schedules and public appearances till May 2011 following her doctor’s orders.

Her health problems came to light, when she was admitted in a hospital in Detroit, in the month of October. The Councilwoman of Detroit city Joann Watson had led a prayer vigil near the city hall for Franklin’s health.

Franklin is popularly known as the “Queen of Soul”. The singer has been awarded 20 Grammy Awards and is renowned for her soul recordings. Franklin has also been rated No. 1 by the Rolling Stone magazine on its list of “The Greatest Singers of All Time.”
