British Taekwondo athlete Sarah Stevenson received a major shock after losing her first round 67 kg bout against USA’s Paige McPherson 5-1. Stevenson said that she had done the best under the circumstances.
The British athlete has been through a lot in the past 18 months after her parents died and she also suffered a serious knee injury. However the 29 year old can still fight for the bronze of she makes it to the finals, but this wasn’t the outcome she was expecting.
Sarah said, “I wanted to come and do my best and I think I did good, I was happy with how I performed”. The athlete also said that she might not have been as good as she was before everything happened to her but she did her best under the circumstances.
Stevenson walked through the mat and looked relaxed. The 29 year old said, The reception was amazing and I loved it so much. Team GB have been so supportive of me all my career and in the last 18 months I could not have asked anything more from the fans and from the people, and my family have been a massive support to me.” The athlete assured that she is going to holiday, rest and spend time with family and needs to think about in what her future lies.
