Light alcohol consumption increases cancer risk

A new study has shown that it not just the heavy drinkers who need to keep a watch on their health. Even one alcohol drink a day might increase the risk of cancer. The study has shown that light drinking is responsible for 34,000 deaths a year in the world.

Light drinking might even increase the risk of cancer in mouth, pharynx, breasts and oesophagus. Low alcohol intake increases the risk of the oral cavity and pharynx cancer by 17 percent and it also increases the risk of breast cancer in women by 5 percent. Evidence has also suggested that drinking in moderation can increase the risk of heart diseases.
