The government of London is planning to create a series of super-connected urban Wi-Fi hubs, for which the first contract to provide citywide wireless access in the UK has been won by Virgin Media Business. Virgin Media will be making use of small cell transmitters to enable a large scale public Wi-Fi network.

This will offer free mobile internet access to enable large scale public Wi-Fi network access to people. Free mobile internet access will be provided to about 1.2 million people in the city centers of Bradford and Leeds. The Wi-Fi service will remain open for the public and will be operated by the group’s corporate business arm.
