Zara Phillips and Mike Tindall to become parents

The Queen’s granddaughter Zara Phillips and her husband, rugby player Mike Tindall are expecting their first baby. The Buckingham Palace confirmed the happy news and said that the baby is expected in the new year. Phillips and Tindall got hitched at Canongate Kirk in Edinburgh, in July 2011. This is the second royal baby news this year, as Kate Middleton is due to give birth in July 2013.

The Buckingham Palace in a statement said, “Mr and Mrs Mike Tindall are very pleased to announce that Zara Tindall is expecting a baby in the new year.” The statement went on to say that parents of the couple and members of both families were delighted with the news.

The baby will be the first child for Mike and Zara and also the third grandchild for the Princess Royal. David Cameron, UK prime minister described the news as ‘quite terrific’. While talking to reporters, the PM’s official spokesperson said, “The prime minister will send his very, very best wishes to the happy couple.”

The baby will be 16th in line to the throne and the fourth great grandchild to the Queen, as well as the Duke of Edinburgh. Other great grandchildren include Savannah and Isla, as well as the Duchess of Cambridge’s and Prince William’s baby.
