American musician and singer Alex Band, of the band The Calling, was reportedly abducted and beaten on August 18, 2013. Band said that he was spared death only when he told his abductors that he was going to become a father soon. On August 17, 2013, the singer performed with the LA-based group at Lapeer Days festival in Lapeer, Michigan.
The incident happened during the early hours of August 18, 2013, when he was attacked from behind outside a store and was forced into a minivan by two men. The singer was then beaten and the attackers robbed him. The Calling, best-known for their 2001 hit song ‘Wherever You Will Go’, released a statement regarding the incident and said that the singer was beaten with a baton and the attackers were asking for his ‘Hollywood money’.
The statement also revealed that the singer then told his abductors that he was soon going to become a father, to which one of the abductors responded and said that they do not kill fathers and dropped him off at a railroad crossing. The band also confessed their past substance abuse problems, but denied that the abduction was drug-related or simply fake.
The singer said that he takes his rehabilitation very seriously and that he was near death due to an unbelievable situation.
