UK Today News: Rodolfo Torre Cantu – Mexican Gubernatorial Candidate Killed In Northern Mexico Today

Rodolfo Torre Cantu: Barely a day after the world hears the shocking news of the murder of Mexican singer Sergio Vega, comes the news that Mexican Gubernatorial candidate Rodolfo Torre Cantu, was killed by gunfire near Ciudad Victoria on Monday morning of June 28, 2010.

Rodolfo Torre Cantu belonged to the Institutional Revolutionary Part (PRI). Interior Secretary Fernando Gomez Mont condemned the killings and stated: “All of Mexico should condemn this cowardly act.”

Reports say that besides Rodolfo Torre Cantu, three other people, which included Torre’s campaign manager, were killed in the gunfire. Four other people were wounded and taken to the Doctor Norberto Trevino General Hospital in Tamaulipas.

Mexico is gearing up for it’s elections on Sunday for 12 governorships and state and municipal offices, and the slain Rodolfo Torre Cantu was the biggest contender for the elections.

A few days ago, on June 19th, gunmen killed Guadalupe Mayor Jesus Manuel Lara Rodriguez.
