There are possibilities that the iPad 2 might be phased out by Apple, as the US giant is all set to launch its iPad Mini, according to popular reports. Rob Chira, an analyst with ‘Evercore Partners’ said that the iPad 2 could be phased out as the company aims towards “clearer product tiers”.

Apple might unveil its iPad Mini at an event on October 23, 2012, the invitations of which have already been sent out. The iPad 2 was launched in March 2011 and the 16 GB Wi-Fi version is presently available through the Apple store at a price of $399; the Wi-FI+ 3G edition can be bought at $529.

On the other hand, the new iPad begins at the price of $499 for the 16 GB WI Fi version, and can go up to $829 for the 64 GB model, which has Wi-Fi and 4G. Invitations which have been sent for the October 23 event have hinted at the upcoming device, as invitations read – “we’ve got a little more to show you”.

The company hasn’t officially announced the iPad mini, however in the past Apple has not revealed what product it will unveil at an event beforehand.
