Parts of the UK have been hit by a major storm, which claimed lives of a teenager in Kent and a man in Watford. More than 270,000 homes are left without electricity and rail services across southern Britain had to be cancelled due to the storm.

According to Network Rail, the damage is even worse than expected and more than 130 flights have been cancelled. The officials informed that a gust of 159 km/h was recorded and forecasters from BBC said that the storm has ended in the UK, but a broadly windy day still remains in the country.

The storm killed a 17-year-old girl when the tree came down where she was sleeping in Edenbridge, at 07:20 GMT. The chief superintendent Steve Corbishly from Kent police said, “She was in a static home adjoining the house she lives in with her family. Tragically, she did die at the scene. It’s not being treated as suspicious but we’re working with Fire and Rescue to determine the exact cause.”

One man in his 50s was pronounced dead after a tree fell and completely destroyed a red Peugeot 307 at Lower High Street in Watford, Hertfordshire at 6:50 GMT. Moreover, 11 flood warnings have been issued by the Environment Agency in South West England, East Anglia and the Midlands.
