David Marcus, the head of messenger at Facebook said, “M is a personal digital assistant inside of Messenger that completes tasks and finds information on your behalf”. Marcus added that the messenger is powered by artificial intelligence and is supervised and trained by people.
The messenger head added that unlike all the other Al based services in the market, the M can complete tasks on behalf of the users. Some of the tasks include purchasing items, getting gifts delivered to the loved ones, book restaurants, travel arrangements, appointments and more. Facebook’s messenger head was earlier in PayPal so his experience can be counted to make Facebook a bigger platform for payments.
Some of the tasks can be as easy as, “M, pay my Mum $300” or “M, please ask Mum nicely for $300”. Having money services aside, the social network is indeed in a strong position in the digital assistance market. Facebook is dominant in terms of digital assistance when compared to other social networks.
