British windsurfer Nick Dempsey won a silver medal in the RS:X windsurfing class. Dempsey managed to claim a medal four years after missing out on one at the Beijing Olympics.

This was the second Olympic medal for the 31 year old who took away the bronze in 2004 after he finished 16th in Sydney. The British surfer is married to Sarah Ayton, who is a double Olympic gold medallist. Dempsey after crossing the finished line embraced the winner Dorian van Rijsselberge of Holland and asked a media boat to ferry him over to the crowd. The surfer after reaching the shore lifted his young son Thomas out of the crowd.
