Kate Middleton visits Newcastle sans Prince William

1780

The crowd at Newcastle, on October 10, 2012 greeted the Duchess of Cambridge as she began with her various engagements in the city. Kate was seen without Prince William and was wearing a plum colored coat by an independent dressmaker.

The Duchess looked calm, relaxed and poised while she stepped out of a car driven by a chauffeur. Middleton was greeted by Lord Mayor of Newcastle, Councillor Jackie Slesenger. Kate was also generous enough to ten year old Terry Campbell, as she leaned over the safety barriers and gave him a hug.

This was the first trip of the Duchess to the North East and appeared alone at the event as the Duke had to cancel his appearance at the last moment, to attend the funeral of his former nanny. Prince William and Harry were taken care of by Olga Powell.

Powell had taken care of the children in the difficult period when their parents were breaking up in the early 1990’s. The first engagement of the Duchess was at the Newcastle Civic Centre where she had contributed to the Olympic Games to make it a successful event. Kate proceeded to meet volunteers who helped make the city centre a welcoming place for business and people.
