In some convenience for the residents of New Jersey who were displaced due to Superstorm Sandy, they will be allowed to vote through email on November 6, 2012 for the US elections. The residents can also vote through fax.
This is the first time that civilians in the state have been allowed to vote remotely. The convenience has been announced despite some security concerns, so as to make it easier for the voters who have faced flooding and power outages. The new move has also been taken to help emergency workers who are busy with disaster relief efforts away from home.
According to a New Jersey directive, the displaced storm victims come under overseas voters, which means that they are allowed to vote remotely. To vote electronically, the residents have to first submit a ballot application by email or fax to their county clerk.
After the application has been approved, the clerk will email or fax a ballot to the voter, who must then send it back, not later than Tuesday at 8 p.m. E.T. In many of the states, remote electronic voting is also available for the military and US citizens living overseas.
