Eskendereya, the Kentucky Derby 2010 favorite, will not be running in the Sunday morning race after the horse suffered an injury to his left front leg.

Eskendereya’s trainer Todd Pletcher told the media, “We’re extremely disappointed. Yesterday morning I noticed a little of a filling (swelling) in his left front leg. . . . I can’t give you a lot of specifics about the injury. He is not lame. He is just slightly off, is how I would describe it.”

The Kentucky Derby is a Grade I stakes race for three year-old Thoroughbred horses. The event is held annually in Louisville, Kentucky, United States and puts an end to a two-week-long Kentucky Derby Festival.

The “Kentucky Derby 136” will be broadcasted on Saturday, May 1 2010 from 5-7 p.m. EDT on NBC.
