Miep Gies, who helped hide Anne Frank and family, dies at 100
Miep Gies, the last survivor who risked her life to hide Anne Frank and her family from the Nazis, died on Jan. 11 in the Netherlands. She was 100.
Ms. Gies had a fall on Christmas, and she died after a brief illness.
Anne Frank was a teenager who was killed in a concentration camp after her family was betrayed to the Nazis. Frank wrote a diary about her life when she was hiding in Amsterdam. This Diary of Anne Frank is among the best known literary works of the World War II period.
It is Ms. Gies who saved the diary and gave it to Anne’s father, Otto, once the war was over.
