UK Today News: The title of Miss America 2011 was won by Teresa Scanlan, on Saturday night and the win makes her the youngest contestant to become the winner of the contest in Las Vegas. 17 year old Scanlan, a resident of Nebraska, won the title after beating finalists, Jacquie Brown from Washington, Emoly West from Oklahoma, Alysey Eady from Arkansas and Jalee Fuselier from Hawaii.
Reports state that Miss Scanlan was the youngest of the 52 contestants. In the year 1938, the age requirement for the pageant were between 18 and 28. Later in the year 1993, the age limit was changed to 17 and 24.
Till date, the youngest contestant to win the Miss America pageant was Marian Bergeron in the year 1933, when no age limits were prescribed. According to the official website of Miss America, during the contest, Teresa played piano and aspires to attend law school. She desires to become a judge and later also a politician.
Last year, the Miss America title was won by 22 year-old Caressa Cameron from Virginia.
