IPhone users can now rejoice as BBC Sport has launched a free-to-download app. An Android version of the app will soon be released in the upcoming weeks.
The new application is a hybrid, blending HTML5-based web content with native iOS features. The content on the application will also have new articles along with live commentary, football scores, BBC radio stations, 5 Live streams, 5 Live Sports Extra, social and personalization features.
Moreover, live video streams will also be added later in 2013. Ben Gallop, the BBC Sport Head of Interactive, while commenting on the software said, “The app is a major step forward in our development and one that recognizes the importance of mobile, right now and in the future”.
For the time being, BBC Sport will not be available on other mobile platforms including Windows Phone and Blackberry. Lucie Mclean, while explaining why the app has been launched on Android later than the iPhone, said that the Android version still needs to be developed and more work and testing is required to ensure that it works on the wide range of Android devices which are available. The Android version of the app will be live in the upcoming weeks.
