The Young Ones star Rik Mayall dies at age 56.
British comedian Richard Michael also known as Rik Mayall died at the age of 56. Mayall was pronounced dead by the police on Monday June 9, 2014 at 13:19 BST. The police are calling it a sudden death and have ruled out any foul play in the matter.
Mayall is best known for playing an obnoxious, poetry writing anarchist – Rick – In ‘The Young Ones’ with his friend Adrian Edmonson.
The actor had also appeared on shows like Blackladder and The New Statesman. The actor fell seriously ill after he’d met with a bike accident in 1998, following which he was in a coma for many days. Some of his movie roles include comedies Drop Dead Fred and Guest House Paradiso.
The actor got a major break at the Comic Strip Club where he performed with comedy partner Adrian Edmondson as the 20th Century Coyote in the 1980s. Mayall has also written The Young Ones with Lise Mayer and Ben Elton. The actor is also known for playing the loud-mouthed and lecherous Lord Flashheart in the popular BBC series Blackladder starring Rowan Atkinson. Mayall has also appeared in the second and fourth series.
Mayall’s management team released a statement saying that they are deeply saddened to announce the death of Rik Mayall.
