Facebook giant Mark Zuckerberg and wife Pricilla Chan are celebrating the birth of their daughter Max and have announced on December 1, 2015 that they will be donating 99% of their Facebook shares in philanthropic efforts.

The couple wrote a letter to their daughter and announced the creation of the Chan Zuckerberg initiative that will be focusing on personalized learning, curing diseases and promoting equal opportunities for all children and more. Mark and Pricilla wrote, “We will give 99% of our Facebook shares — currently about $45 billion — during our lives to advance this mission.”
Zuckerberg added that he will be selling or giving not more than 1 billion Facebook stock every year for the next three years. The Facebook giant in a letter to daughter Max said, “Like all parents, we want you to grow up in a world better than ours today”. Zuckerberg had pledged in 2010 that he would give away at least half of his net worth and now he and his wife have upped the pledge.
Mark has assured that he would reveal more details of the initiative in due time. Meanwhile the family is busy settling down and will wait for their paternity and maternity leave to finish.
