Actress Rue McClanahan, famous for her role in “The Golden Girls” died of a stroke early this morning. She was 76. The actress had suffered a stroke earlier this year after undergoing a bypass surgery.

Rue McClanahan has acted in some famous movies like “Maude,” “Mama’s Family” and “The Golden Girls.”

McClanahan started acting on Off-Broadway in New York City in 1957, and it was only in 1969 that she made her Broadway debut. She got her big break when she played the role of Caroline Johnson on “Another World” (from July 1970 – September 1971) She then went on to act in the CBS soap “Where the Heart Is.”

Betty White, 88, is now the only surviving member of the “Golden Girls” cast.
