UK Today News: SeaWorld, California Reopens On Wednesday Following Death Of Killer Whale Sumar
SeaWorld in San Diego, California is set to get back in action on Wednesday, after it was closed following the death of a 12 year old killer whale at the aquarium. The killer whale died on Tuesday after it showed signs of illness on Monday.
Officials at SeaWorld say that the cause of death is still unknown, and it will only be revealed after the necropsy results are announced.
SeaWorld spokesperson David Koontz told CNN, that this is a very sad day since that the whale was very sharp and intelligent. The whale named Sumar weighed around 5000 pounds and was one of the seven whales at the SeaWorld that could do around 100 types of ‘behaviors’.
Sumar was at SeaWorld since 2001 and had no medical history with him. The whale had been acting lethargic from Tuesday and was under treatment until the park vets tried to find what was wrong with him. Despite the vets attempts to help Sumar, he did not survive.
