UK Today News: Koran Burning Day Plans To Continue At Dove World Outreach Centre On 9/11, Says Rev Terry Jones
Pastor Terry Jones of the Dove World Outreach Centre, has decided to go ahead with his plans of burning of the Koran (Quran) irrespective of the condemnation he is facing from the U.S. government. He is firm with his decision of burning 200 copies of the holy book of Islam on September 11, to mark the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.
Rev Jones said, “If we don’t do it, when do we stop backing down? It’s something we need to do, it’s a message we need to send. We are prepared to give our lives for this.” The Quran burning is going to take place at the Dove World Outreach Centre, Gainesville, Florida.
The US Secretary of state, Hillary Clinton, called the act as “disrespectful, disgraceful “. Eric Holder, the Attorney General, named the act as ‘idiotic and dangerous’ and one of the state department spokesman called it as ” thoroughly un-American”.
The Pastor says, death threats, condemnation from the administration or even if any other thing under the sun comes against his decision, he is determined to burn the Qurans.
Reports state that thousands of Indonesian Muslims gathered in front of the US embassy in Jakarta to protest against the burning of Korans. This act has led to widespread condemnation from people of all faiths across the globe, since it goes against the element of religious tolerance.
