UK Today News: Commonwealth Games 2010 – India Set For Opening Ceremony, But UK Fears Poor Turnout

CWG 2010 – On the eve of the 2010 Commonwealth Games, there are concerns that the poor participation of athletes from certain countries can to some extent affect the results turnout  at the CWG 2010 in Delhi, India.

BBC reports that the Head Coach of the UK Athletics, Charles van Commenee is worried about the expectations of the public. He says, “We are concerned momentum and public perception will be harmed. They come out with the complete team and they are armed and prepared. For us it’s the dessert after dinner. The fact we have a lot of athletes not going, that will tell you the expectations have to be realistic. There’s very little I can do about it.” Many top athletes from the UK have backed out of the 2010 Commonwealth Games, and British officials feels that this would really affect the country’s performance this year.

After weeks of international criticism over the way preparations of the games was managed by India, the host nation has finally got everything in place, and is all set for the grand opening of the event on Sunday.

Prince Charles and his wife Camilla will grace the event and the 2010 Commonwealth games will see 71 nations participating this year.
