There are chances that the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival could be forced to find a new home. The festival might have to be relocated if the plans for the new local tax go ahead.

Considerations are being made on admission tax on entertainment events by the Californian city of Indio. The event is attended by more than 2,500 people. Even event promoter Goldenvoice, which organises the Stagecoach music festival , has threatened o move the show out of the Coachella Valley f the plan goes ahead.

Paul Tollet, the president said that the tax would add $36 to each ticket, but has refused to pass the rise on the festival goers. Tollet said, “If the tax initiative of putting $4 million to $6 million onto Coachella gets on the ballot, we’re going to take off 2014; 2015 we’ll be at a new facility outside of Indio”. The president also said that the tax is outrageous for all the things they have done with Indio.

The promoters GoldenVoice have been trying to buy land around surrounding the Empire Polo Club site , where the festival is normally held. The festival will be held again over two consecutive weekends in the year 2013.
