Scottish singer Susan Boyle, who shot to fame when she appeared in the popular show Britain’s Got Talent, has been awarded with an honorary degree. The singer has been given the award for her contribution in the creative industries.
Boyle was honoured by Queen Margaret University of Edinburgh, where she studied for a certificate in caring. The degree was presented to the singer by founding chancellor Sir Tom Farmer and has been awarded for her work in the society at large, which the university says reflects its it commitment to the community it serves.
Boyle was brought up in Blackburn, West Lothian where she still lives today. The singer achieved fame with her appearance in on the TV show in the year 2009. On the show the singer sang ‘I Dreamed a Dream’ from the musical Les Miserables.
The YouTube clip of the performance has got 21.5million hits. The first album of the singer was released in the year 2009, ‘I Dreamed a Dream’ which became the fastest selling album ever. Boyle later released two more albums and has since then sold 18 million albums worldwide. The Scottish singer has 120 platinum and gold albums across 38 countries.
