According to the US National Hurricane Center, the storm was graded to a category 1 storm. On Thursday, at 04.00 am, the storm was cited 20 miles off Ciudad Victoria, North Mexico which is some 160 miles south of Brownsville in the US. At that moment, the storm was raging at a constant speed of 80 miles per hour.

There were no injuries or casualties reported by the local news media, but rather the storm had lashed the area of Rio Grande Valley with heavy rains and eventually started to die out before it reached the state of Texas, which has a past history of being hit by hurricanes regularly.

According to AP, “Alex had heavy rains and winds topping 110 mph (160 kph) as it hit land, lashing Mexican fishing villages, whose residents fled inland to the town of San Fernando on buses and in pickup trucks. Hundreds of people filled a storm shelter in a town auditorium.”

Over Northern Mexico, Hurricane Alex ripped off roofs, has resulted in severe flooding and thousands of people had to move away from the coastal fishing villages. It has now weaked to a tropical storm.
