Serena Williams brings victory to US with gold

UKTodayNews: American tennis player Serena Williams on August 4, 2012 delivered a stunning performance and secured the gold medal for the US after a one sided victory over Russian player Maria Sharapova. Williams secured her win in the women’s singles on Centre Court on Saturday.

The 14 times grand slam champion dropped just one game in the second set as she romped to a 6-0, 6-1 victory over the Russian, which is considered as one of the most comprehensive women single’s final win in the Olympic history. It seemed like the 30-year-old American was in full form and energy and won the last seven matches as she played against Sharapova.

Williams brutally slammed her opponent with powerful strokes and bullet like ground strokes as the match lasted for just 63 minutes. The wind was a major distraction at the Centre Court, but Williams seemed determined and finished the contest as quickly as possible.

Williams lost just a total of 17 games in her six games and made the US flag wave during the medal ceremony. Williams has won all the 17 matches since she lost to Virginie Razzano at the French Open on May 29, 2012.
