Many world leaders were supposed to attend the ceremony, but a lot of them had to cancel due to the hazardous flying conditions in Europe – as a result of the volcanic ash.

United States President Barack Obama was also unable to attend the ceremony.

Other World leaders like Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Britain’s Prince Charles and Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper were also unable to attend.
